Editorial:

This 8th volume of the HAFS Journal represents a slightly new start.  After some fourteen years, the founding Editor, Dr Peter Sherlock, has handed over the reins to his father, the Revd Canon Dr Charles Sherlock.

Charles assisted with formatting of the Journal for the first half-dozen volumes, and looked after this aspect of the Newsletter. He brings to the position the experience of having been Editor of the national Anglican weekly, Church Scene, in its final years, but lacks the detailed knowledge of HAFS affairs, and of historical method, which Peter brought to the position.

With the change of Editor comes a slight refreshing of the Journal’s format. It will continue to appear twice each year, hopefully each May and November, though the handover means that a little catching up is needed. The contents of this issue were gathered by Peter Sherlock and John BS Hungerford, and brought together by Charles Sherlock.

The main group of articles in this first (and double) issue of the new Journal concern a number of wineries with close associations to the Hungerford and associated families, beginning with an introduction to Australian viticulture more generally. (Graphics with some articles have been taken from websites of the wineries concerned.) We thank the many folk who wrote the chapters of these highly informative wine articles.
